Big Picture: Where are we?
Assessing new properties, cleaning up punch lists. Gonna be like that for a while.
With California settled back down, I’m back to working on punch list items in Pittsburgh. I’m assessing properties and spending a lot of time on the non-sexy, back office stuff that frankly doesn’t make for very interesting social media posts, but it’s essential to running the business.
Goals from week of 6 Feb
- Tax preparations {started}
- Significant backlog of office work that has been put off for the last several months. {WIP}
Corp Update
- Evaluated a property on Mellon St. this week. Site visit with real estate agent and architect. The building is a write-off, so I’m evaluating in terms of scrape/ rebuild.
- Working on the backlog of office tasks. Been sorting out the filing, trying to organize paperwork from multiple properties into a system I can live with. As much as I’d love to say that I’m 100% new tech, this business still runs on paper, so I need to have a system for it.
- In the bucket of “new skills”, I’m working on some 3D software to try to model some complex trim pieces that I need to build. It’s a nice connection to my “old career” while exercising a different part of my brain. The first time around on anything new is slow and painful, but I’m hoping I can learn it well enough that it’s easy to do in the future.
- I visited a Maker Space in Export PA to check out their facilities. Might be a place I could do some work, but they seem to be in a state of transition right now. I used this facility in the past. Since then, they’ve acquired a lot of new (second hand) industrial equipment, but they’re still in the process of sorting out how it’ll fit in the space. Lots of things stacked up, etc.
